About Us

Studio Indigene looks at objects of a varied scale and functionality. The designs see a keen experimentation of volumes and a play with strong forms; designs that aspire to form an identity.

With wood as our primary medium, it is the skillful handcrafting of our woodworkers that transfigures our designs on paper to objects in real life. The making adapts, and sometimes challenges even, the traditional wood crafting practices to create contemporary pieces.

In the process of production, each piece is intently worked on, the crafting of wood, the finishing of a piece, the assembly of all parts to make a whole - this is no less than creating a work of art. The natural grain of the wood is retained, making each product singular, in the realest sense, at our studio. Each piece has a lasting impression on us as creators, and we hope that this translates into the user experience - for one’s hands to feel the beauty of what another ’s hands have created.  We often like to think of Indigene products as heirloom pieces, made with a passion of design and craftsmanship, designs that stand the test of time, a quiet yet prized part of one’s possessions, waiting to be passed on.

Studio Indigene is the brainchild of two architects - Tanvi Deolekar & Shubham Mestry.
